In honour of National Volunteer Week, April 19 to 25, 2020, we took some time to recognize some very special volunteers who work tirelessly on behalf of Radius to raise funds for the children, youth and families we serve. Meet, Ann Mulvale! Ann, a long time supporter of Radius, has been part of our Tournament of Hope Committee (our annual golf tournament) for over 8 years. In the face of so many charities to support why Radius Child and Youth Services?
For me it is about the children and young people; clearly I care about my son and my granddaughters but also about the children/youth of my community and world too.
I had what would be politely called a ‘challenging’ childhood. A resident of Oakville for over 48 years, past Executive Director of the United Way of Oakville and Mayor, I am aware that many children within Oakville/Halton face challenges today.
Those exposed to trauma will have a hard time overcoming the lingering fears associated with such experiences; it will be difficult, if not impossible, to recover and reach their potential on their own.
A counsellor can, does, help the individual and their family refocus and support lives.
To me it is simple: a small investment of my time and material blessings can add much to the life of a child/young person, it pays a dividend to them and their families. Volunteering also makes a difference to the community as a whole, and the Town my granddaughters are growing up in.
In my past, I overcame challenges because someone cared enough to help me; I am privileged to be able to repay that investment. To simply “Love others, as you have been loved”.
I am also confident that Radius is a good steward of the donations and other funding that they receive. May I invite you to consider supporting this agency that helps children & youth; together we can make a difference, one that truly changes lives.
We cannot thank Ann Mulvale enough for all that she does for Radius! Without her generous support, we would not be able to do the work we do! THANK YOU!!
